Kmart’s Thanksgiving Sale Ad is Almost as Crazy as Their Black Friday Hours

At the end of last week, we shared with you that Sears Holdings had announced the Black Friday hours for both Sears and Kmart. Today we got a copy of Kmart’s Thanksgiving Sale Ad and the sales are almost as complicated as Kmart’s hours.Kmart Black Friday 2012The total ad from Kmart comes in at 24 pages. 11 of those pages are Thanksgiving doorbuster sales that take place from 6am-4pm on Thursday ONLY. The next 13 pages are sales that are good all three days, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

We suspect that Kmart may still release another ad before too long. This current ad is promoting their Thanksgiving Sale and doesn’t specifically mention Black Friday. Since Kmart’s doing multiple sales, they may have additional discounts just for Black Friday. Sign up for our Black Friday Alerts and we’ll let you know as soon as we hear more.

5 Ways to Get Fit for Black Friday

Black Friday is physically a tough day for shoppers. You’ve gorged on Turkey the day before, making you feel bloated and listless, and now at midnight (or 4am, or 6am) it’s time to get in the car for a marathon day of battling other customers at the mall. Here are a few things you can do to prepare yourself physically before Black Friday to keep you from hurting yourself and to help you feel a little better about eating Pumpkin Pie for breakfast.  You don’t have to go crazy like Maria Bamford’s Target Lady, but you can.

Despite the cheery name, Black Friday is not a safe and carefree day.

There are potential safety issues on any trip to a store or to the mall, but on Black Friday the safety risks increase exponentially.  There you are, browsing through cute tops and the next thing you know, some crazy lunatic is climbing upon the walls to get something off that shelf way up by the ceiling and BAM! The ugliest (and heaviest) pair of boots you’ve ever seen have conked you on the head, leaving a nice Black Friday Battle Scar on your forehead.

Another hazard to watch out for is faceplanting. Yes once the initial rush into the store is over there will be a LOT of tripping hazards and the last thing you need is to be lying flat on your back in Wal-Mart watching someone else walk away with the last $15 HD TV.

And these safety concerns all assume you won’t get trampled in the stampede when the doors open. So what can you do to make sure you are Black Friday ready? Just follow the 5 steps below and you’ll be in top shape for dodging through crowds and grabbing the best Black Friday deals.

The Official Ace Hardware Black Friday ad is here!

So on October 28th we posted a leaked Ace Hardware Black Friday ad, then on October 31st, we were asked to remove the leaked ad.  In a fairly nicely worded letter, Ace let us know that what we were circulating was a proof and that they had not finalized their Black Friday sales yet. Ace told us that the official ad would be out early in November and now here on November 2nd, it’s out!  Take a look at Ace Hardware’s Official ad. The good part about stores asking us to remove leaked ads is that when the real ads are ready, they send them to us first. 2012 Ace Hardware Black Friday Ad

We did a little sleuthing to see if there are any changes in the sales from the leaked ad to the official ad.

5 Entertaining Ways to Maintain Your Sanity in Black Friday Lines.

While we all love the thrill of the hunt for that perfect gift at a great bargain the one thing no one likes is standing in check-out lines.  Some stores are better than others at moving lines quickly, but if you’re shopping with children even a short line can be far to long (are we there yet? I have to go to the bathroom!).

Here are 5 ways to keep your kids (or spouse, parent, whoever you’re shopping with) from driving you crazy while you wait in line.

Black Friday Tips for Waiting in Line

1. Play a Scattergories/I-Spy Mash-Up.

Start with the letter A and take turns calling out things starting with that letter you can see from your place in line. The person who comes up with the most words wins that letter. This is a great distracter for the whole family and doesn’t require any paper or pens filling up your hands. The best part? By the time you get through the whole alphabet, you’ll hopefully have moved onto a new store (or at the very least, closer up in line) and can start over. (more…)

Black Friday from the retail employee’s point-of-view

Wilbur

Wilbur, a former retail employee, has worked on every Black Friday since he was 16.

Yes, we all know that on Black Friday the main focus is on the shoppers. Where will they shop? How much money will they spend? How many people are going to participate on this glorious shopping day of the year? But, we almost never think about the employees who works on Black Friday, who deals with the chaos of Black Friday and manages the event to go smoothly.

So, we decided to get a perspective on what store employees go through on Black Friday, by interviewing, Wilbur, a 25- years old Southern Illinois University  alum, who throughout his college career worked as a retail employee and has worked on Black Friday ever since he was 16.

Krystal: What stores have you worked for?

Wilbur: Gap Outlet and Banana Republic Outlet

Krystal: How many years were you employed at each store?

Wilbur:  I’ve worked Black Friday since I was 16.  I worked at Gap for seven years and Banana Republic for one.

Krystal: What were your positions?

Wilbur: Sale Associate

Krystal: What time did you have to be at work on Black Friday?

Wilbur:  It varied, every year was different. Every year was a different schedule/routine. The first Black Friday I worked at Gap, and I  had to be at work at 5pm.  I worked the midnight shift for three years, 2008 to 2010. In 2008, I worked on Black Friday at Gap in a mall in Pleasant Prairie , Wisconsin.  It was the first time the area had opened stores at midnight. The line to get to the mall was backed up all the way to the highway.

Music & Arts Black Friday Ad: It will have you singing in the streets

Today we got a copy of the Music & Arts Black Friday ad. This is our first time seeing a specific Black Friday ad from this store so we’re excited to add them to our Black Friday family.

The 4-page Music & Arts Black Friday Ad features four coupons and 23 unique sale items. The Music & Arts Black Friday sale is a 3-day sale, starting in-stores at 8:00 a.m. on Friday and ending Sunday. Music & Arts Black Friday Ad 2012The front page of the ad is a little vague in that they say you can find the deals online starting on Thanksgiving, but then above that in big letters it says “In-Store Only” and also says this at the bottom of the last page. We’re guessing that they want you to go online Thursday and pick out what you plan on getting over the weekend. It’s possible that they’ll be offering more deals than are in the ad, we’ll have to wait until Thanksgiving to find out.

If you don’t have time to look through the deals online or in the ad, make sure you print out the first page for the great coupons: (more…)
