Reading through each of your comments on our Black Friday Facebook page, I’ve come to realize this year’s biggest controversy: Store hours.
Believe it or not, this was the same hot-topic of 2012. Last year, shoppers had their worlds turned upside down with the announcement that some stores were moving their store hours from the traditional 5AM to Midnight. This year, many large retailers are rumored to be opening at 8PM on Thanksgiving and that poses the question: Is 8PM the new midnight?Read the rest of this entry >
The Black Friday store hours rumors are trickling in! Last week we shared a rumor that Macy’s would be opening at 8:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
Today, Brad’s Deals heard a rumor from an Express insider that all Express stores will be starting their Black Friday sales at 12:00 a.m. on November 29th. Last year only select Express stores jumped on the midnight bandwagon but this year all Express locations will be opening their doors for Black Friday right when the clock strikes 12.
Last year was the first time we saw non-big box retailers and malls start opening at midnight, with mostly department stores being open and handfuls of other retailers throughout the mall. This year we anticipate that more of these stores will join their counterparts at midnight while big box stores push into Thanksgiving. Read moreRead the rest of this entry >

For a few weeks there have been some rogue 2012 Black Friday store hours lists circulating around the internet that are unverified. Today Black Friday by Brads Deals has verification that Walmart and Best Buy will be opening at midnight on Black Friday again this year.
Other Black Friday news sources have been reporting store opening hours over the last few weeks but have not been providing any hints of where their information is coming from. We’ve noticed that it’s the exact same list that seems to be going around with store hours suspiciously similar to last year. We did some searching and couldn’t find any stores that had sent out press releases announcing opening times or any times listed on store websites. Today we saw our first hint at store hours from a reputable news source.Read the rest of this entry >
For those of you that are just plain unhappy about stores opening at midnight on Black Friday, we wanted to let you know that you are not alone. In fact, 87% of people don’t think stores should be open at all on Thanksgiving. With Walmart opening at 10PM, and Toys R Us opening even earlier at 9PM, shoppers will have to eat an early dinner in order to get in line for their doorbusters.
Some stores are opening at 12AM on Black Friday, also making for an early start to the Black Friday line standing. One store among 12AM openers is Target, who has recently gotten some attention due to an employee-created petition against the store opening its’ doors at 12AM. You can view the petition here.Read the rest of this entry >

There have been a lot of comments on the late night vs. early morning Black Friday sales. Target, Macy’s and Kohl’s are all opening at midnight this year. So after you finish Thanksgiving dinner, you can go shop to your heart’s content! JCPenney and Sears will be keeping the traditional early-morning store hours; opening at 4AM. This has created quite a stir in the comments sections of our Black Friday news page as well as on our Facebook page.

The details of the “major cinematic event” that Best Buy referenced in the announcement of their midnight Black Friday hours were leaked late last night in an interview with Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn posted at TwinCities.com.
Speaking at a Business for Social Responsibility conference, Dunn revealed that select stores will host a viewing of Harry Potter in the parking lot. The comments were not specific about which movie in the series would be shown, though we’re thinking that Deathly Hallows Part 2 is a safe bet given that the DVD’s 11/11 release date would make it a hot item for the holidays. The movie will keep the waiting crowd entertained and should be wrapping up just in time for the doors to open. It marks the first time in memory that a major retailer has hosted an event of this kind to attract Black Friday crowds, and we expect it to tip the scales in Best Buy’s favor when Black Friday shoppers start planning where to begin their shopping day.Read the rest of this entry >
