Walmart’s Pre-Black Friday Sale: Ultimate Online Specials

As more Black Friday shoppers move their holiday shopping online year after year, we’re seeing more online retailers launching pre-Black Friday sales in early November to capitalize on the run up to the Black Friday deals frenzy, pushing the timing of these deals up more and more every year. Walmart is no exception, kicking off their holiday shopping season today by rolling back the prices on their Ultimate Online Specials.

Walmart Pre-Black Friday Sale 2012

Much like Amazon’s Countdown to Black Friday Week, Walmart is offering  deals on electronics, apparel, video games, TVs and more now through Black Friday 2012. However, use caution and compare prices carefully. We noticed that many items listed as Ultimate Online Specials, like Furby, are still listed at full price.

8 Stores Offering Holiday Layaway Programs for 2012

Just a few years ago, layaway programs were not in favor with most retailers.

BradsDeals lists 8 stores offering Layaway Programs this holiday season.

The payment program had fallen out of favor with the vast majority of shoppers, and only a few retailers thought layaway was worth the time and hassle to keep it alive.

However last year, layaway programs made a strong comeback among many retailers, especially Sears and K-mart, when they declared their National Layaway Week to help kick off the 2011 holiday shopping season. This year layaway programs are in high demand with stores, some programs even started early as September this year. Layaway competition is fierce this year, as major retailers like Toys R Us and Walmart have been heavily advertising their layaway programs leading up to the 2012 holiday season.

Earlier in September, Toys R Us announced that they would waive fees making its layaway service free for shoppers until October 31, but now the retailer has now decided to extend their layaway plan to December 16th due to seeing its popularity with customers. Walmart and K-mart both ante up their layaway programs as well. K-mart waived fees for shoppers and Walmart reduced their upfront fee from $15 to $5. Since the American economy is still putting a serious burden on American family incomes, retailers are hoping to make the holiday months easier, offering you several layaway options this year. Like last year, we’ve listed several stores and their layaway plans to aid you in purchasing your holiday items over time. Most of the stores are similar to last year, but some stores have changed their fees from last year due to the high popularity of layaway this year.

Will Walmart Workers Strike on Black Friday?

As if the annual reports of riots, tramplings and other bad behavior aren’t enough, Black Friday 2012 may be even uglier than usual at Walmart.

Walmart Black Friday

Black Friday deal hunters at Walmart may be crossing picket lines to shop.

Walmart employees from 28 stores in 12 different cities staged a walkout on Tuesday, rallying against the retail giant with claims of unfair labor practices and retaliation against employees who try to organize. Strike organizers United Food and Commercial Workers Making Change At Walmart (UFCW) and affiliated group OUR Walmart warn that if their demands are not met, a Black Friday strike is imminent.

“We feel like if they refuse to listen to our proposition we will make sure that on Black Friday we will take action inside and outside of stores,” said Colby Harris, a 22 year old Walmart worker from Dallas, Texas and OUR Walmart member. “We’ll make it known that Walmart’s deadline is Black Friday,” he added. Strike plans may include picketing, leaflets and flash mobs.

When Will 2012 Black Friday Ads Be Released?

Black Friday is slowly but surely approaching, and even though the biggest shopping day of the year is still seven weeks away, shoppers are already planning their Black Friday shopping strategies. However, you can’t possibly plan a shopping strategy until the Black Friday ads are released. Black Friday Shopping 2012
When will retailers release their Black Friday 2012 ads? That is the big question. The anticipation is building. So, we decided to make some of our own predictions of when big retailers might release, based on previous Black Friday ads releases from 2010 and 2011.

From research and observation of recent years, we  suspect smaller retailers, like mall stores or hardware stores, may be the first to come out with their Black Friday ads. For bigger retailers like Toys R Us, Best Buy, Target and Walmart, we’ve made a list of dates of when their Black Friday ads came out within the last two years and what we predict will be this year’s  release date. We’ll be posting them as soon as they arrive, whether earlier or later than predicted.

P.S. Sprint’s Black Friday ad is already live!

Walmart and Best Buy Black Friday Hours Confirmed

For a few weeks there have been some rogue 2012 Black Friday store hours lists circulating around the internet that are unverified. Today Black Friday by Brads Deals has verification that Walmart and Best Buy will be opening at midnight on Black Friday again this year.

Walmart store hoursOther Black Friday news sources have been reporting store opening hours over the last few weeks but have not been providing any hints of where their information is coming from.Best Buy Store Hours We’ve noticed that it’s the exact same list that seems to be going around with store hours suspiciously similar to last year. We did some searching and couldn’t find any stores that had sent out press releases announcing opening times or any times listed on store websites. Today we saw our first hint at store hours from a reputable news source.

Walmart’s Top 20 Toys for 2012 Just Announced

Last month Black Friday by Brad’s Deals gave you our predictions for what the top 10 hottest toys of 2012 will be. This week Walmart put out their list of the top 20 toys for this holiday season. So how did our predictions match up with Walmart’s?

Our Top 10 Toys for Black Friday 2012

What Black Friday by Brad’s Deals thinks the top 10 hottest toys for 2012 will be.

  1. Furby 2012: We both think that this revamped version of the cult favorite 90s toy will come out as the hottest toy for this holiday season. Currently priced at $54.00, we can’t wait to see if Walmart does a dramatic Black Friday discount on Furby 2012.
  2. LeapFrog LeapPad2: The LeapPad was a huge Black Friday seller in 2011 and Walmart is expecting it to be almost as popular this year. While we still think the LeapPad will be big this year, there are so many other tablets for kids (the  iPad mini, Tabeo Kids Tablet, and the Nabi 2 Tablet for Kids,) that LeapFrog has some stiff competition this year.

No Kindles at Walmart this Black Friday or Ever?

Kindle Fire HD

Walmart won’t be selling the Kindle HD on Black Friday.

Will you be buying the new Amazon Kindle Fire HD this Black Friday? If so, it won’t be at Walmart! More Layaway News From Walmart, Toys R Us, Kmart

We’re pretty excited that the major players have begun announcing their layaway plans! The holiday shopping season is just around the corner, and the big retailers know it. So far this year, the trend has been to extend the layaway period and to reduce or eliminate fees, making the service even more consumer-friendly by allowing for a longer payoff period.

If layaway is part of your Christmas shopping plans, you’ll want to pay attention to our layaway round up below. Here’s what we’ve seen announced so far.

Walmart Layaway

Starts: 9/16/122011 Walmart Black Friday Online Doorbusters
Fee: $5

As previously mentioned, Walmart announced their layaway plans last week, launching the program a full month earlier than last year. Their original plan replaced the $10 cancellation fee with a $15 sign up fee, which would be refunded in the form of a $15 Walmart gift card upon payoff.

After the initial announcement, however, Walmart was flooded with complaints from consumers that the $15 layaway fee was too high. Walmart has since caved to consumer pressure and lowered the layaway fee to $5 – a definite win for holiday shoppers!

Toys R Us Layaway

Starts: 9/4/122011 Toys R Us Black Friday Ad
Fee: Free until 10/31, then $5

Toys R Us opened their holiday layaway program on Tuesday and will waive the service fee for new layaway accounts through October 31.

“We continue to look for ways to help our customers stretch their budgets, and by taking advantage of this free layaway option, they can make a series of small payments over time, as they begin to think about what might be on their children’s holiday wish lists,” said Troy Rice, Executive Vice President for stores and services.

There is no purchase minimum to participate in Toys R Us layaway, and customers must pick up their items by December 16.

Kmart Layway

Starts: 9/9/12
Fee: $5 on 8 week contracts; $10 on 12 week contracts / $15 down payment or 10% (whichever is greater)

Kmart Black Layaway 2012

You can use Kmart layaway in stores and online on purchases of $300 or more.  With Kmart’s layaway program you can choose from a 8 or 12 week payment contract. You can cancel your purchase at any time, for a $10 fee, and will be refunded all payments collected for layaway items.

From September 27th thru November 29th, there will be a weekly drawing to have one layaway participants remaining balance paid off. By placing an item on layaway you have been entered into the sweepstakes, and you are eligible to have up to $500 of your purchase paid off by Kmart.

Walmart Layaway to Open Early for the Holiday Shopping Season

In a tumultuous economy like ours, many Americans rely on store layaways to get their holiday shopping done. Luckily for them, many big name stores are making it easier each year, recognizing that most people aren’t able to spend at least twice their normal budget one month out of the year. With layaway you can choose the products you want and pay for them over a two to three month period of time, no credit necessary. After a five year hiatus Walmart is bringing back their holiday layaway for the second year in a row — and it’s better than ever.Walmart Layaway

This year, Walmart layaway will begin on September 16, a whole month earlier than last year’s October 17 debut date. This gives shoppers even more time to pay off their holiday shopping bills, and Walmart even more time to promote their holiday shopping deals. Even better, if you “like” Walmart on Facebook you can start layaway two days earlier, on September 14.

“The customer was saying if they had two more pay cycles that really would be helpful for them,” Walmart U.S. Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer Duncan Mac Naughton told Reuters. (more…)
