Thanksgiving hours are nothing new to Kmart, which had a wacky set of Black Friday hours in 2012 that resembled a three-act play. For 2013, Kmart is opening its doors at at much more straightforward 6am on Thanksgiving Day and will be keeping the lights on for an epic 41-hour run through 11pm on Friday night.
Sears, on the other hand, joins major retailers like Macy’s, JCPenney and Kohl’s to open at 8pm on Thanksgiving night – familiar territory since Sears opened at 8pm last year as well. Black Friday at Sears will run until 10pm on Friday night, though the doorbusters only last until 1pm.
“Sears and Kmart have been leaders in integrated retail, delivering convenient options to create a more rewarding shopping experience for our members, while blurring the boundaries between offline and online shopping,” said Leena Munjal, senior vice president customer experience and integrated retail, Sears Holdings. “Our Shop Your Way members have the option to shop anytime, anywhere and anyway they want – especially during the busiest shopping weekend of the year.”
While we’re glad to see Kmart abandon its wacky hours scheme, we’re surprised to see them blow right past the 8pm trend to aim for 6am. The good news is that you can hit Kmart on your way to Thanksgiving dinner instead of leaving it early to get in line.
