A rather sad part of the Black Friday ritual is waiting for media reports of violent incidents from across the country. Here’s a round up of stories about Black Friday incidents we’ve heard about in 2012. They certainly create a compelling argument for shopping for Black Friday deals online instead of fighting the angry mob.
Covington, Washington
A suspected drunk driver ran down two people in a Walmart parking lot. A female victim is listed in serious condition, while a male victim is listed in good condition.
San Antonio, Texas
After a shopper tried to bully his way to the front of the line at Sears, a man already in line pulled a gun to defend his spot. The line bully reportedly fled the scene, and the shopper with the gun will not be charged with a crime since he has a concealed carry permit.
Baltimore, Maryland
A 14-year old Black Friday shopper reported being robbed of his purchases by five men in a Bed Bath and Beyond parking lot.
Holland Township, Michigan
Two women caught shoplifting at Old Navy pulled a gun on a store detective in the parking lot as he tried to record the alleged thieves’ license plate number.
Kentwood, Michigan
Pepper spray was during a “gang fight” at a Michigan mall, in or near a JC Penney, as police attempted to subdue them. It’s unclear who used the pepper spray, and much of the information about the incident comes from eyewitness accounts posted to Twitter, but two teenagers are confirmed to have been taken into custody.
Moultrie, Georgia
Of course, even when there’s no overt violent intention, dealing with an unruly Black Friday mob can be dangerous. Check out this video of shoppers fighting over smartphones this morning in a Georgia Walmart.

the only bad behavior i saw this year was one kmart only had 8 of the $40 tablets (as advertised) and the first two people to get there grabbed em all then proceeded to prance around the store bragging about it. then at the 8pm sears opening as soon as the doors opened people started jumping out of their cars and tried to jump in line, but that’s typical, and proudly the line goers weren’t having it. i am appalled at this kind of behavior above, there is nothing in this world worth losing your dignity and self respect over, that’s not a very good deal at all. i’ve been out shopping pretty much since 4:30 am on thanksgiving and i still even to the last purchase managed to be kind, courteous, and respectful to everyone i crossed paths with, it’s funny usually people use karma as a negative thing and i saw a few instances where it did come back to bite some people, but karma can also be a good thing, you’d be surprised how far a smile, a please, a thank you, or an excuse me can get you, or even if you’re looking at someone and you’re both stuck on opposite sides of the aisle, see if there’s something from your side that they need and hand it over if you can, i wish more people would figure out how to let black friday help them come together instead of ripping us apart, i wish someone had been with me through out my entire shopping day(s), post that video up, give people some hope for a change
We all know why its called “Black” Friday now, don’t we?
