For better or worse Target has been leading the Black Friday spectacle this year. Just this morning we got the black and white version of the 2012 Target Black Friday ad. The ad comes in at 32 pages with almost 300 items. We showed you a sneak peek of the inside and outside covers yesterday, but that’s not where Target’s Black Friday saga begins. As you may recall, first Target said they would NOT be participating in the Black Friday price game, then they said they would, then they took it a step further saying they would price match with select online retailers. This year there’s definitely been a lot of Target Black Friday news keeping us busy!
Besides from following other retailers in online price matching, Target will also be opening on Thanksgiving, just like competitors Kmart and Walmart. Target’s doors open at 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving and their sale runs a full 26 hours, ending on Black Friday at 11 p.m.
Separating themselves from competitors (but following their ad formula from last year), instead of putting the best doorbusters on the first few pages, Target’s spread them out across the whole ad with one door-buster per page. The door-buster item on each page is highlighted with an arrow that says “doorbuster” pointing to it so it’s very easy to see. This is smart marketing by Target since it forces customers to pay attention to the whole ad instead of just ripping out the first few pages and ignoring the products in the middle.
Here’s some of the hottest doorbusters (in case you’re one of those people who don’t want to hunt through the ad for them):
- Westinghouse 50″ LCD 1080p HDTV $349 (limited quantities available)
- Playstation 3 250GB Game System w/ 2 games and one wireless controller $199.99
- Classic Board Games $7.00 each
- LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean The Black Pearl $74.99
- NHL Blue Line Hockey Table with Overhead Electronic Scorer (54″) $55 (Regularly $79.99)
- 6′ Pre-lit Fraser Fir Tree – Clear Lights $30
We know it’s a little hard to see the products in this ad. As soon as we can get the color version of the Target Black Friday ad we’ll replace the black and white one with it. Sign up to receive our Black Friday alerts and you’ll know as soon as it’s posted.
